Over the past couple of days Trading Standards has received several reports that a number of charity collection bags have been delivered to homes across the borough.
Household collections are a popular way for charities to collect donations but beware some collections are bogus. Unfortunately some may try to exploit your generosity for their own gain, so please always take the time to read the smallprint. Know where your donation is going as it may not be where you think.

A gentleman received a telephone call from a male claiming to be from British Telecom Accounts Department advising that payment of his telephone bill was overdue and the service would be suspended unless payment was made immediately by credit or debit card. Do not be fooled when the caller says he can disconnect the line as this is all part of the scam.

Warrington & Halton Consumer Alert Network has become aware that householders across Warrington & Halton have again been receiving telephone sales calls offering alarm systems.
As on the previous occasion earlier this year, reports received indicate that the trader will make a cold telephone call and try to secure an appointment. Various inducements may used to secure an appointment, for example the trader may say that the alarm system is free of charge or comes at present with no installation cost but please beware there could well be a catch.
