iCAN is run by Warrington Trading Standards on behalf of the Warrington Consumer Support Network
The purpose of iCAN is to broadcast warnings to Members to alert them to the latest consumer rip offs that have hit the town.
The technology we have allows messages to be sent to Members within hours, ensuring maximum impact.
Messages can be received by telephone, text message or e-mail.
It has been brought to the attention of Trading Standards that a high number of householders across both Warrington and Halton have been receiving telephone sales calls offering alarm systems. Whilst the calls may be from bona fide companies many residents have made enquiries to the Police and Trading Standards seeking both reassurance and advice.
Reports received indicate that the trader will usually try to secure an appointment and will often promote a special offer price for a limited time period. For example the trader may say that the alarm system is free of charge or comes at present with no installation cost but please beware there could well be a catch.

Over the past couple of days Trading Standards has received several reports that a number of charity collection bags have been delivered to homes across the borough.
Household collections are a popular way for charities to collect donations, but beware some collections are bogus. Unfortunately some may try to exploit your generosity for their own gain, so please always take the time to read the small print. Know where your donation is going as it may not be where you think.

On inspection bins in Perrins Road and Back Lane where found to be empty and a member of the public has reported seeing two men loading sacks into a silver van.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas Warrington and Halton Trading Standards service have received numerous complaints from residents who have purchased GHD hair stylers and Ugg boots from fake websites. These sites have been designed to look like official websites, but as you navigate your way around the website it will become apparent that this is not the case. Consumers are not receiving the goods ordered or, more frequently, receiving poor quality counterfeits.
