Warrington Food Award - Introduction

This Award is given to food premises in the Borough who show they are capable of achieving and maintaining a high standard of food hygiene and have systems for monitoring the safe production and storage of food. In addition they offer 'healthy' choices in the food they produce.

Businesses achieving standards of excellence will be offered an Award with Distinction.

Who can apply for the Award

All catering businesses may apply for the Award, including hot food takeaways, mobile food businesses and public houses, and it will be assessed by the Food Safety Team.

Food premises that qualify for the Award will be issued with a certificate and a window sticker to demonstrate to customers the high standards achieved.

There are two additional options as part of this award:-

Premises that are entirely smoke free can also receive the 'Warrington Smoke Free Award' in recognition of their clean air status.

Premises that support breastfeeding mums can apply for the 'Sure Start For All Parent Friendly Retailer Award'. This scheme encourages public venues to provide practical support to breastfeeding mums.

Is there a charge?

There is no cost for this Award

What are the benefits for my business?

Holding the Award increases customer confidence in the standards that your business has achieved and shows a commitment to maintaining those standards year on year.

On receiving the Award, you can display the certificate and promotional sticker in your premises and use it in any advertising or promotion for that year. In addition, there will be a presentation event at which businesses receive their Award and the Council's website will carry details of those who hold the Award.

How to apply

Please take some time to read through the pack which provides details of the criteria that you need to meet. If you wish to apply, please complete the application form, which asks for details about your business, and the healthy options assessment and return them together with a copy of your menu to the address on the pack.

What happens next?

Once we receive your application it will be dealt with by a member of the Food Safety Team and your premises will be visited and assessed against the Award criteria. If you are successful in gaining the Award, we will write to you to confirm this and send you your certificate and window sticker.

The Food Award can be removed by the Council if your standards fall at any time during the year that it is in force. At the end of the year you will be able to apply again for the following year.

In all cases the decision of the council is final.

It is important that your business meets the required standards before you make an application. If you are uncertain about any aspect of your application, the Food Safety Team are happy to offer you general guidance on the Food Hygiene Standards Section of the Award, but you should be prepared to spend some time completing the application and providing evidence of your standards.
