Trading Standards
Warrington Borough Council provides a comprehensive Trading Standards Service for consumers and businesses in Warrington.
The service has enforcement powers and duties under some 75 Acts of parliament and several hundred regulations including those associated with Metrology, Food, Agriculture, fair trading, Product Safety and Petroleum.
How Can We Help You?
- We advise and educate consumers and businesses on their legal rights and responsibilities.
- We investigate complaints from consumers and traders where it is in the public interest.
- Inspecting all trade premises on a risk assessed basis for complaince with trading laws.
- Project based enforcement provides insight into specific goods, services and trading practices.
Consumer Advice
Who Can We Help?
- The Trading Standards Service will provide a comprehensive Consumer Advice Service to all consumers who reside in Warrington.
- Where a non Warrington resident contacts the service then assistance will be basic and will often comprise of no more than a re-direction to their own authority.
- The service will provide advice to traders who trade within the Borough.
How Can We Help You?
- We can provide an explanation of the civil law relevant to your enquiry.
- We can provide 'initial' advice on how you can take action to resolve your problem.
- If after following initial advice your problem is not resolved we may intervene on your behalf. Hwever, this is not always possible in every case.
- Where we consider that you may have a valid case that has not been resolved we will advise you on how to take action through the County Court.
- Our advisers have the discretion to intervene between parties in dispute and provide a greater level of advice/assistance to those consumers who are less ale to help themselves or are less likely to be able to resolve the matter unassisted.
We Cannot
- Demand refunds, replacements or apologies from traders on your behalf.
- Advice you if you are already receiving advice from another agency or a solicitor.
- Assist you if in our opinion your complaint is unjustified or is not in the public interest.
